02 March 2012- Under the Serbian Presidency in Office, MARRI Friends Meeting was organized in Belgrade, Serbia on 2nd March 2012 attended by representatives from MARRI member states, Diplomatic Core and international organizations. Minister Ivica Dacic stated that Serbia will try to fulfill the tasks set to the adopted Regional Strategy and Action plan for the period from 2011 to 2013, and will support all activities of MARRI. He described EU candidate status for Serbia as a positive decision in the interests of the citizens, and noted that the status confirms the substantial achievements in the field of reforms, that Serbia as well as the countries from the region is a democratic society and a country of European values. Mr. Dacic underlined that illegal migrations and combating illegal trafficking in human beings are two important priorities on which Serbia is focused within the MARRI initiative, which it is currently presiding.
MARRI Regional Centre Director Mr. Trpe Stojanovski congratulated Serbia on the candidate status, adding that this represents a new impetus and quality from the regional cooperation. During the presentation of forthcoming activities in 2012, Mr. Stojanovski presented a project proposal in the area of trafficking in human beings in the framework of the MARRI National Anti-trafficking Coordinators Network asking relevant international organizations for support.
