SKOPJE, Macedonia – In accordance with MARRI Strategy and Programme of Action for 2006/2007, the MARRI Regional Centre in Skopje organised a Workshop on Document Security and Establishment of Identity in Skopje on 23 and 24 November 2006.
The participants had an opportunity to get familiarised with document security and establishment of identity concepts from MARRI Member States, the European Union countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom), USA and relevant international organisations (such as Europol, ICMPD and UNMIK).
This activity is in line with the joint conclusions from MARRI Workshop on Migration Management Systems held in Ulcinj, Montenegro, 5-6 October 2006 and Recommendations from the Workshop on Management of Irregular Transit Migration held in Sarajevo on 29-30 June 2006, where the relevant institutional stakeholders discussed measures to enhance regional cooperation and information exchange mechanisms (on national legislation, policies and practices related to combating irregular migration, operational structures and methods of perpetrators, consular information, trafficking and smuggling of human beings, false documents, fraudulent invitation letters, fake travel agencies, etc) and promote the approximation of common standards.
As a result of the mentioned Workshop, the MARRI Regional Centre will aim to establish a special Working Group on Document Security and Establishment of Identity, which will consist of relevant experts from national institutions managing irregular migration.
