TIRANA, Albania – The Director of the MARRI Regional Centre, Mrs. Alenka PrvinÅ¡ek, held a briefing for members of diplomatic core in the Republic of Albania in Tirana on 20 November 2006.
She presented the priorities from the MARRI Strategy and Programme of Action for 2006 and 2007 in the fields of migration, asylum and return process, visa and consular cooperation and integrated border management, with an overview of MARRI Regional Centre’s present and future activities.
The meeting underlined the contribution of MARRI to the promotion of regional cooperation, as MARRI was established according to the basic guidelines of the regional ownership concept. It has been emphasised that regional cooperation among Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia within the MARRI Regional Forum contributes to the alignment of national policies and to the development, stabilisation and improvement of the situation in the region as this cooperation reflects the extent to which the region is prepared for integration into EU structures.
At the end, Mrs. Prvinšek expressed high hopes that MARRI Member States, including Albania, in cooperation with other states and international organisations, shall continue to give its full contribution to future coordination and realisation of MARRI activities and priorities.
