SKOPJE, Macedonia – The MARRI Regional Centre, under the Montenegrin MARRI Presidency-In-Office, organised the Consular meeting regarding the Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Consular Protection and Services, which took place in Skopje on 26 January 2010.
The meeting represents outcome from the MARRI Regional Committee Meeting conclusions held in Becici, Montenegro on 17 December 2009, where MARRI Committee Members invited the MARRI Regional Centre to organise a consular meeting in early 2010 in order to finalise the Memorandum of Understanding among MARRI Member States on mutual consular protection and services. In order to accomplish the best results, the MARRI Regional Centre invited heads of consular departments in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the MARRI Member States.
The Draft Memorandum of Understanding on Mutual Consular Protection and Services was prepared in order to ensure the basis and to define the framework of cooperation among the MARRI Member States in the field of consular matters with a view to entering into possible bilateral agreements as well as to conclude consular sharing agreements providing a range of consular assistance to the nationals in the locations where they don’t have respective consular representation.
